— King Wen of Zhou

Creative Womb: Primary flourishing. Advantage in the steadfastness of a mare. If the exemplary person has a course to go, first there is wandering, later finding the master. Advantageous to find companions in the southwest, lose companions in the northeast. Settle into steadfastness, auspicious.

Ancient Comments on the Judgment

— Confucius

Utmost indeed is the primary source of the Creative Womb; myriad things rely on it for birth, thus following and receiving Heaven. The Womb's thickness bears all things, its virtue joins without limit; containing expansiveness, radiant and great, all kinds of things flourish. The mare is of the earth-kind, moving on the earth without limit; yielding responsiveness is beneficial steadfastness. In the exemplary person’s course of action: first wandering and losing the way, later following and obtaining the constant. Finding companions in the southwest—thus moving with those of the same kind; losing companions in the northeast—thus in the end there is blessing. The auspiciousness of settling into steadfastness responds to the earth without limit.
